Dental Fillings –
Treat Your Cavities In A Single Sitting

More than 9 in 10 Americans have had dental caries in their permanent teeth that required fillings, making this dental procedure one of the most common. Dental fillings are the simplest and most effective way to treat cavities, helping to prevent further tooth decay and health complications.

How Do I Know If I Need A Filling?

You may require a filling if you experience any of the following signs and symptoms:

  • Tooth sensitivity
  • Pain when chewing
  • General toothaches (sharp, throbbing, dull)
  • A visible hole in your tooth
  • Signs of tooth decay, such as discoloration
  • Floss that frays when you place it between a particular set of teeth
  • A tooth that feels rough or jagged against your tongue

If you’re experiencing any of the above, we recommend booking a check-up appointment with our dentist.

Dental Fillings: What Does The Procedure Involve?

We’ll book you in for a preliminary appointment to assess the condition of your teeth. During this checkup, we’ll identify any caries you may have, and advise you on the best course of action. We’ll also talk you through the various materials of fillings so that you can make an informed choice, then book you in for the procedure.

During your second appointment, we’ll use an anesthetic to numb the area, after which we’ll remove the tooth decay with an abrasion tool or dental drill. You’ll experience some vibration, but it won’t be painful. If at any point you feel uncomfortable during the procedure, we’ll do everything we can to put your mind at ease.

Once the decay has been removed, we’ll clean the cavity before filling it with your preferred choice of material. After this, we’ll polish the tooth to smooth it out.

It’s advisable not to consume anything very hot or cold for about 24 hours after the procedure, as this can trigger sensitivity in your tooth.
