We’ll book you in for a preliminary appointment to assess the condition of your teeth. During this checkup, we’ll identify any caries you may have, and advise you on the best course of action. We’ll also talk you through the various materials of fillings so that you can make an informed choice, then book you in for the procedure.
During your second appointment, we’ll use an anesthetic to numb the area, after which we’ll remove the tooth decay with an abrasion tool or dental drill. You’ll experience some vibration, but it won’t be painful. If at any point you feel uncomfortable during the procedure, we’ll do everything we can to put your mind at ease.
Once the decay has been removed, we’ll clean the cavity before filling it with your preferred choice of material. After this, we’ll usually clean and polish the tooth to smooth it out.
It’s advisable not to consume anything very hot or cold food for about 24 hours after the procedure, as this can trigger sensitivity in your tooth.
We’ll check the filling on your next visit to ensure that there are no problems and that the filling is still in place.
