Dental Implants –
Restore Your Smile
Dental implants are a fantastic way to restore your smile if you have lost teeth in an accident, or due to gum disease or tooth decay. They can be used to replace one or more missing teeth and can fill in large gaps in the mouth with natural, long-lasting results.
What Are Dental Implants
and How Do They Work?
Dental implants consist of a titanium screw that is placed into the jawbone, replacing the missing tooth root. Once fitted, the bone around the implant gradually fuses to it, keeping it firmly in place. A false tooth, resembling the rest of your teeth is then fitted on top, resulting in a natural finish that blends with your smile.
Because dental implants replace both the tooth and the root, they typically last much longer than dental bridges and dentures, and they feel more natural and are a lot more effective.
Who Are Dental Implants For?
Dental implants are suitable for most healthy adults with missing teeth, although there are some factors that may affect your suitability. If you smoke, have gum disease or low bone density, or have had radiotherapy around the jaw, you probably aren’t a suitable candidate. You also won’t be able to get dental implants if you are under 18, as your jaw needs to finish developing first.
If you are thinking about having dental implants, we recommend booking a consultation with Dr. Sarah Latterell first. We’ll assess your mouth, take x-rays, and assess your medical history to ensure dental implants are right for you.
